Land der Berge Über alle Berge – Das Lechtal
Das Tiroler Lechtal wird vom Lech geprägt – dem letzten Wildfluss Mitteleuropas, der seinen Lauf bis heute frei gestalten darf und die Landschaft ständig neu formt. Entlang seines Ufers begegnet diese Neuproduktion von „Land der Berge“ Menschen, die ihre Kultur, ihr Handwerk und ihre Heimat mit großer Leidenschaft bewahren.
Künstler und Handwerker wie der Bildhauer Ernst Schnöller schöpfen ihre Inspiration aus der Natur des Tals. Die legendäre Geierwally, deren Geschichte auf die Malerin Anna Stainer-Knittel zurückgeht, ist bis heute ein wichtiger Bestandteil des kulturellen Lebens und wird auf der Freilichtbühne in Elbigenalp lebendig gehalten.
Musik, Theater und traditionelles Handwerk sind hier eng miteinander verbunden. Orte wie die Wallfahrtskirche Maria Schnee oder der „Weg der Sinne“ spiegeln die spirituelle und künstlerische Seite der Region wider. Hoch oben in den Bergen führen Menschen wie Bergführer Markus Filzer oder die Wirtsleute der Hermann-von-Barth-Hütte ein einfaches, naturnahes und nachhaltiges Leben.

Above the Peaks: The Lech Valley
The Tyrolean Lech Valley is shaped by the River Lech, the last wild river in Central Europe, which still follows its natural course and continually reshapes the landscape. Along its banks, this new episode of Land of Mountains encounters people who preserve their culture, craftsmanship and homeland with passion and commitment.
Artists and craftspeople such as sculptor Ernst Schnöller draw inspiration from the valley’s remarkable natural surroundings. The legendary Geierwally, inspired by the life of painter Anna Stainer-Knittel, remains a central figure in local cultural life and is brought to life each year on the open-air stage in Elbigenalp.
Music, theatre and traditional craftsmanship are deeply interwoven throughout the valley. Sites such as the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee and the Path of the Senses reveal the region’s spiritual and artistic character. High in the mountains, people such as mountain guide Markus Filzer and the hosts of the Hermann von Barth Hut lead lives that are simple, sustainable and closely connected to nature.
