Around Lake Faak
When the deep blue sky stretches across the southern region of Carinthia, Lake Faak sparkles in shades of emerald green, earning its well-deserved nickname, the “Caribbean of Carinthia.”
Towering above the lake is Mittagskogel, the region’s iconic mountain. With its unmistakable pyramid-shaped silhouette and an elevation of more than 2,000 meters, it dominates the landscape and serves as a defining landmark of the area.
In this documentary, director Max Jacobi portrays the daily lives of local residents and the unique conditions that shape their work and way of life. Featured are livestock farmer and breeder Hans Wochinz, forester, hunter, and Oberkrainer musician Hubert Pichler, local fishing association chairman Karl (“Charly”) Gailer, falconer and fruit farmer Mirjam Baumgartner, ranger and forest educator Barbara Wiegele, and dairy farmer and choir singer Stefan Ressmann.
Despite their different professions, they all share a deep connection to the alpine landscape that surrounds them. Nature is not merely a backdrop to their lives—it determines their routines, livelihoods, and traditions.
With each changing season come new tasks and challenges, but also a renewed affirmation of the natural rhythm that shapes life around Lake Faak. Through their stories, the film offers an intimate portrait of a region where people remain closely connected to the land and to the enduring cycles of nature.
Rund um den Faakersee
Wenn sich der tiefblaue Himmel über Kärntens Süden wölbt, glitzert der Faaker See, der zurecht als „Karibik Kärntens“ gilt, besonders grün.
Über ihm thront der Mittagskogel, der Hausberg des Sees, mit seinem unverkennbaren, pyramidenförmigen Massiv und einer stattlichen Höhe von über zweitausend Metern. Gestalter Max Jacobi erzählt aus dem Alltag der Menschen vor Ort mit ihren ureigenen Lebens- und Arbeitsbedingungen: der Fleischbauer und Züchter Hans Wochinz, der Forstwirt, Jäger und Oberkrainer-Musikant Hubert Pichler, der Obmann des örtlichen Fischereivereins Karl (Charly) Gailer, die Falknerin und Obstbäuerin Mirjam Baumgartner, die Rangerin und Waldpädagogin Barbara Wiegele sowie der Milchbauer und Chorsänger Stefan Ressmann.
Sie alle spüren eine große Hingabe zur alpinen Natur, die ihr Lebensumfeld bestimmt. Jede neue Jahreszeit bedeutet für sie andere Aufgaben, aber auch eine Bestätigung jenes Rhythmus, der ihr Leben ausmacht.
